The project provides environmental improvements to a popular public waterside space with extensive views over the Southampton Water. We provided masterplanning, detailed design and site implementation advice to complete the project to a high standard. A new timber viewing deck built beyond the existing sea flood defences enhances the spectacular location and an amphitheatre space with seating steps provides a focal point for the annual Hythe Festival and other local events. There is a range of seating areas affording access for all with varying views. A daymarker/wind vane provides a focal reference point and a polar sundial creates further interest. |
Disabled parking is provided and vehicular access is maintained to existing houses, shops and the local pub. The result is a highly acclaimed, award winning public realm space which is popular with locals and visitors alike. Civic Trust Award: "This scheme brings a successful improvement to the townscape and provides a relaxed pedestrian orientated space which encourages local people to enjoy their seafront."
