We are familiar with site planning, the setting of health buildings within the landscape and the more functional issues of parking, access and pedestrian arrangements. We also appreciate the restorative value of landscape spaces for patients, staff and visitors and their potential to relieve stress, soothe and restore. Patients' interaction with the landscape and their sensory experience can reduce anxiety and even temporarily deflect pain awareness. Private spaces are important for quiet contemplation, meeting visitors, exercise and relaxation. Our health related projects have included new build and refurbishment from feasibility to successful completion. |
These have incorporated a variety of hospices, care homes and hospital sites and extensions to existing hospitals. Examples include the new build West Mendip Community Hospital with a controlled wetland habitat flanking the Somerset Levels fed by surface run off. Landscape spaces provide a relaxed and stress free environment for patients, visitors and staff. Also illustrated is a feasibility scheme for conversion of the Belmont Hospital site in Tiverton. Existing and new build combine to maximise development potential. Concept design drawings for a care home in a semi rural location in Upton, Poole have followed consultations with the local planning authority. |
