A privately funded hospice situated on a sensitive urban fringe site outside the local plan development area of Yeovil in Somerset. The Landscape Practice provided landscape impact and feasibility advice towards planning approvals. Initial concepts demonstrated a country house style driveway frontage with concealed parking areas. Bedrooms with individual patios facing open fields to the rear are intentionally calm, simple and rural in composition to accord with local authority planning requirements. Two internal building courtyards are simple, bold design statements. Careful liaison with the hospice led to the production of a landscape masterplan. |
Detailed design and site administration of hard and soft landscape spaces completed the scheme to a high standard. Curved parking areas with SUDS drainage flank the main driveway concealed behind sweeping evergreen oak hedges. Planting areas are generously furnished with some mature stock for instant effect. The hospice were anxious that the grounds should be appreciated by all from the start. James Middleton-Stewart, former partner of ADP Architects remarked: "The Landscape Practice helped us achieve a difficult planning consent and delivered a sophisticated scheme fitted to the building concept and rural setting". |
