Two separate areas of housing for the MoD/Defence Infrastructure Organisation on this Air Army Corps British Army base provide a total of 240 new houses offering accommodation for officers and military service families. High quality design and finishes are fundamental to the concept of this traditional village style development which reflects the local Hampshire village vernacular. Small groups of houses create an individual, homely atmosphere. The Landscape Practice has provided advice from concept to completion and the landscape masterplan has been an integral part of shaping the development process. |
The project has a central village green, generous areas of open space with play areas for varying ages, and a comprehensive network of cycleways and footpaths. There are over 800 individually selected semi mature trees planted on site creating an instant setting whilst ensuring a high quality for the development. The project is used as an example in the Defence Estates Better Defence Buildings to: "demonstrate excellence in contextual and sustainable design". The site also has an RIBA Housing Award Commendation. |
